It's a HUGE weekend for local music, yet again. WCBE is hosting a benefit tonight that stretches all across town; the schedule for that is here. Many of those shows should be good, but I believe the best place to be Friday night is Carabar, 115 Parsons Ave., for...
...Columbus Discount Records' 4th anniversary party. I can't decide which part of Friday's lineup I'm most excited for. Comfest's breakout stars Hugs & Kisses? Ace veterans roused from hibernation Moviola? Band to watch Outer Spacist? The new and intriguing Deathly Fighter?
Saturday the party continues at Cafe Bourbon Street, 2216 Summit St. If you're gonna go, be sure to make it for the Unholy 2 so they don't feel so marginalized. Both shows are free, making this thee best deal in town.
However, there are some other great shows happening Saturday. I'm especially psyched for the Cusacks reunion at Andyman's Treehouse, 887 Chambers Rd., which doubles as the CD release show for Cincinnati's awesome Wussy. The Kyle Sowashes are rounding out one of the most fun bills I can remember. Read about the Cusacks in the paper this week.
The final pick is Saturday's Celebrity Pilots release show back at Carabar. John Ross wrote a little bit about the record this week, and I'm looking forward to getting in a more extensive listen in the future. Joining Chris Sheehan's bunch for this increasingly rare performance are the Beatdowns, the Judas Cow and Joe Anderl.
