EDIT: I completely forgot that tonight is Slice of Columbus is tonight at LC Pavilion. For $12 (which goes directly to Children's Hospital), eat all the pizza you can stand from numerous local pizza shops, then vote for the best. Just don't say I didn't warn you about the musical entertainment; last year the abysmal Shuckin' Bubba Deluxe rotted my ears out.
Underappreciated local duo The Receiver heads up tonight's live music with a free show at Carabar, 115 Parsons Ave. Check out my previous features on the spacey rock/electronic band (here and here), then send them out on tour on the right foot. They're joined by the consistently stimulating Melty Melty and a band from Virginia called Pash. The show starts at 10 p.m. and is bolstered by Carabar's $1 Coney night.
Former CD101 staples Local H are also playing a free show at Newport Music Hall, if you're into that sort of thing.
FX has the best TV option tonight, as Rescue Me winds down its fourth(?) season. I hope to watch the Denis Leary-starring firefighter drama someday, as I've heard nothing but good things about it. The show kicks off at 10 p.m.
For a different taste, try Top Chef, Bravo's superb culinary competition, also at 10 p.m.
And just for kicks, maybe tune in to ESPN Classic at 8 p.m. for a replay of the Michigan-Appalachian State game.
