We're in the midst of the slow season for concerts, and I'm struggling to find good live music some nights, including tonight. Inconveniently, it's also the slow season for TV, despite yesterday's bumper crop of miniseries and specials. Suffice it to say all of those weeklong events from yesterday are still chugging along tonight.
But perhaps your time would be better spent poking around the Baltimore drug trade. As I mentioned earlier today, HBO's The Wire is set to begin its fifth and final season this January. While you're picking up presents for other folks, you might want to grab the Season 4 DVD set, which came out a couple weeks ago and which I have been enjoying mightily whenever I have a free minute. The four-disc set retails for around $60, and while that might seem kind of steep, I'm sure you'll agree it's worth it after a few episodes. If you subscribe to HBO, Season 4 is available on demand for the rest of the year. And if you've never seen the show before, it's worth it to go back to Season 1 and sink your teeth in from there. The utterly realistic crime drama takes a while to get used to, but once you're sucked into that world, you're as addicted as the junkies that keep dealers like Marlo in business.
