Rumors swirled over the weekend that the Lab Rats, a Columbus duo that found a devoted audience for its "thrift-shop hip-hop," had broken up. Their manager recently sent out word that he was no longer working with the band, and their tour dates disappeared from MySpace. Official word came down today in a message on the band's website:

The Lab Rats have amicably disbanded. We both thank our fans for the appreciation and support of our music over the last few years.

I was just listening to the group's superb EP Half Full Ashtrays, Half Empty Glasses last week and wondering why these two had never taken off beyond Ohio's borders.

To reminisce, listen to the Lab Rats at MySpace, read my feature on the band from back in 2006 and watch this video for "Devil's Train."
