Akron's Audio Eagle Records has a spotless reputation so far after releasing three of Ohio's finest rock releases in recent years—Houseguest's jittery power-pop treatise High Strangeness, the melancholy rural jams of Beaten Awake's Let's Get Simplified and Bloodsongs, the best release from electro-nudists Gil Mantera's Party Dream. The label, run by the Black Keys' Patrick Carney and Teeth of the Hydra's Jamie Stillman, also has this winter's well-rounded A Compilation of Bands From Ohio to its credit.

Now, joining Audio Eagle's ranks is the label's first non-Buckeye band, Knoxville's Royal Bangs. The peppy, poppy indie rock fivesome impressed Columbusites last summer at Cafe Bourbon Street, and judging by the quality of the free MP3 Audio Eagle distributed yesterday, We Breed Champions, due for national release in May, is just as impressive.
