There are some other decent shows going on Saturday night, but we're throwing the best one in town. Doors open at 9 p.m. Saturday at Skully's, 1151 N. High St., for our FREE annual Bands to Watch show. Music will begin within the hour in this order: Rosehips, Young Wise, Sinkane, Fly.Union, The Slide Machine. Come say hi at the show.

But before all that Saturday goodness, consider the bounty tonight presents. First and foremost is the return of Terribly Empty Pockets from their Canadian exile. They'll be joined by Psychedelic Horseshit, some version of Tree of Snakes and grunge a cappella group Rage Against the Cage. (Seriously! Check video of them after the jump.) This is happening at Carabar, 115 Parsons Ave., and is free. I sure do enjoy it when I actually know what's going on down there. Is posting a calendar online really selling out?

Anyhow, also of note tonight is the release party for Mors Ontologica's The Used Kids Session at Ravari Room, 2657 N. High St. This is sort of strange because the record has been available for a few months, but it's certainly worth celebrating; check John Ross' review from a while back. The band will be playing two sets, as will Mike Rep & the Quotas.

Finally, Skully's has a strange but attractive double bill tonight. DJ Dave Nada, the DC record spinner who has some affiliation with defunct punk band Q and Not U, returns to set Columbus bodies gyrating. Also on the bill is hardcore band Triceratops.

So that's what's hot for Friday. I'll see you at Skully's Saturday for Bands to Watch.
