I've been looking forward to next week's Caribou/F*** Buttons show at Wexner Center, but it was called into question last week when Caribou drummer Brad Weber broke his wrist. Pitchfork reported that the band was flying in a potential replacement drummer, but when news came yesterday that the drummer in question was Ahmed Gallab, the mastermind behind Columbus' genre-jumping behemoth (and Band to Watch) Sinkane, it came as a pleasant surprise.

Gallab will be with the band through May 4. This unfortunately means the Sinkane spring tour is canceled. (Sinkane was already set to open Caribou's April 9 Wexner Center show, so I assume that's still on.)

things havent quite sunken in. we played tonight and it went very very well. in fact, i had a lot of people come up to me and ask if i really did meet up with caribou last night. they thought it was an april fools joke. we practiced from 7 pm till 1 am and 11 am till 7 pm today before we played. i learned 11 of the 14 songs and we're just gonna keep practicing until i have everything down solid.

the way it worked out was dan snaith sent out a mass email to people he knew about a replacement drummer. i think it was to people on the caribou email list. i got the email noonish on march 31st and instantly responded. he then called me and said that he'd fly me out that night for practice, etc... he booked me a plane ticket and i just went. f***ing crazy but whatever.

Congrats, Ahmed! See you at the Wex.
