Once again we've got two big rock 'n' roll shows happening tonight in Columbus:
Van Halen (pictured) returns to our fair city for the first time in decades with original frontman David Lee Roth. The newly reunited hard rock greats arrive at Value City Arena with three out of four founding members—Eddie's teenage son Wolfgang has replaced Michael Anthony on bass. I ran a split preview on this and the Police show; check it out, then turn up at the Schott if you're willing to spend between $50-150 on your ticket. Showtime is 7:30 p.m.
Also on campus, Athens, Georgia Southern rock stalwarts Drive-By Truckers return to Newport Music Hall, 1722 N. High St., minus the services of Jason Isbell but plus the company of some other Alabama natives, opening act The Dexateens. Tickets are $20 and doors open at 7 p.m.
On TV, American Masters: Marvin Gaye (9 p.m., PBS) sounds like a worthwhile watch, while Bravo has a super-sized, 75-minute Top Chef at 10 p.m.
