Wolf Parade is known for the dual vocal attack of Dan Boeckner and Spencer Krug. Krug is well known for his wide array of side projects, most prominently Sunset Rubdown, but Boeckner has another band of his own. Handsome Furs teams the singer with his wife, Alexei Perry. Their partnership puts Boeckner's husky, emotive vocals against a moody musical backdrop with more breathing room than Wolf Parade affords. If Krug's Sunset Rubdown tracks sound like a trip to some bizarre prog rock dimension, Handsome Furs' new Plague Park isn't nearly so different; it mostly sounds like Wolf Parade's comedown album. Familiar keyboard octaves and Boeckner's climactic howls join very un-Wolf-like elements such as acoustic guitars and electronic drums. The result ought to be worth checking out tonight at Skully's, 1151 N. High St. Doors open at 8 p.m., and tickets cost $10 at the door or $8 if you hurry now to bencopresents.com. Witchies will also perform.
