Murs is not your typical rapper. The dude rocks a supremely weird haircut, obsesses over country and indie rock and spits about topics other than rims and shorties. (Not that there's anything wrong with lyrics about rims and shorties.) His show tonight at The Basement, 391 Neil Ave., should be hot. Doors open at 7 p.m. and tickets cost $12.
I'm also fascinated by the last of a series of collaborations between Deadsea guitarist Adam Smith and German pianist Simone Weisenfels. Read Smitty's gushing invitation and be inspired to check it out for yourself. Experimental pals Ryan Jewell and Mike Shiflet will also be collaborating, and avant-dance crew Queen Mae and the Bells will perform. It all happens at sweet campus dive/Browns bar/Crew headquarters Ruby Tuesday, 1978 Summit St. 9 p.m. start.
On TV, BET's American Gangster returns for a third season at 10 p.m., right after the network's annual hip-hop awards at 8. And you can't skip The Office (9 p.m., NBC).
