Hola, amigos. Time for some vaguely Crew-related but mostly Chris-related ramblings.

I arrived in LA two days ago after some unfortunate complications with my flight and my bank account (nobody's fault but my own), then encountered more trouble when I tried to hit up this city's venerable DIY joint The Smell later that night. Needless to say, several hundred dollars poorer and minus one Love is All concert, I was more than ready to sleep Tuesday night.

A nice 40-minute jog, a trip to the Pacific and some delicious sushi helped to get this trip back on track. Also, the endless summer thing pretty much trumps any problems.

Anyway, as alluded to last week, this trip is a bizarre combination of work and leisure. Mostly I'm just bumming around LA trying to see the sights. But I'm also covering MLS Cup, featuring the one and only Columbus Crew taking on those former MetroStars, the New York Red Bulls. You can read all kinds of in-depth coverage at The Dispatch proper, Shawn Mitchell's "Covering the Crew" and the Crew's official blog.

At the moment I'm in the midst of one of my work-related detours. I'm at the Hyatt, where newly crowned MLS MVP Guillermo Barros Schelotto is about to mingle with the media for an hour. I'll post again after that session comes to a close. Then it's off to hang out with the rest of my Columbus media brethren for the rest of the night. Word on the street is Crew play-by-play guy Dwight Burgess is looking for a place to watch the Bengals on NFL Network. (Perhaps he wants to get his spirits down as low as possible before Sunday's MLS Cup so a Crew win would produce maximum satisfaction?)

Anyway, more thoughts from me after Guillermo speaks.
