OK, I'm back from a highly disappointing matinee showing of Watchmen. Now for a quick rundown of this weekend's awesome shows, all of which would be a better use of your 163 minutes. I would say there is literally something for everyone this weekend. To wit: two for tonight, two for tomorrow and two for Sunday:
FRIDAY •Didn't get this into print, but it's certainly worth mentioning that two metal monstrosities with Ohio ties, Skeletonwitch and Early Man, will rock Ravari Room, 2657 N. High St., tonight. Also on hand: Red Fang (I got lots of press releases about those guys) and Struck by Lightning, the new project from former Mouth of the Architect mastermind Greg whatshisname. This show promises metal. 'Twill deliver metal. Throw up yr horns. 9 p.m. doors, $10.
•On a more country-rock tip, Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit will be Rumba Cafe, 2507 Summit St. As you may know from my preview, I think opening act Deer Tick is just as worthy of your attention. 8 p.m. doors. This'll be $12 and well worth it.
SATURDAY •Rap fans can rally 'round Canibus at Skully's, 1151 N. High St. The $5 presale or $10 door charge will get you a slew of other performers too: The 3rd, Ol' Scandalous, Bottom Brick, etc. I don't have the dirt on all them, but I know enough about Canibus to write this preview for ya.
•Meanwhile, fans of ye olde experimental musique ought to (and surely will) flock to the Cafe Bourbon Street/Summit complex (2216/2210 Summit St.) to see two pretty incredible bills. There's more than I can mention here, but you can read all about it in this handy thread.
SUNDAY •Your quiet Sunday option: Bloomington's masterful husband&wife at the Treehouse, 887 Chambers Rd., alongside The Kyle Sowashes (who actually aren't that quiet) and Take No Damage (ditto). 9 p.m., $5.
•Your loud Sunday option: WOLF EYES. Holy crap. Also, media-spurning hardcore heroes Vile Gash will play, as will several experimental acts that may in fact be much quieter than Wolf Eyes. This goes down, of course, at Skylab, 57 E. Gay St. (5th floor). PREVIEW YEAH!
