SPD GVNR is the new band from Justin Hemminger of Treysuno, a Bowling Green-bred, Columbus-grown indie rock band (in the gritty Archers of Loaf sense of the phrase) that ended its eight-year run in 2007. I reviewed SPD GVNR's first show in last week's paper; their second gig is tonight at Bernie's, 1896 N. High St., where Hemminger and bandmate Nick La Russo will celebrate their birthdays (hence the "birthday steak" in the flier) and many bands will play. (This being Bernie's, who knows how many acts could be booked without our knowledge?) A couple of groups from the region that bore Hemminger's old band are coming down for this, including Fangs Out and Hot Damn. Columbus-Dayton hybrid The Salt March will perform too. I really enjoy that their MySpace URL reads "The Salt March, Son!"

Also on tap for tonight: A band called EOTO that claims to create house, dubstep and electro tracks live, with no prerecorded tracks. That's an interesting gimmick, but I don't usually feel like I'm getting robbed when I experience those genres in all their sampled glory. This is happening at the Scarlet & Grey Cafe, 2203 N. High St.
