Artist: Garth Harrison Shack Song: "Victimless Criminal"

Garth Shack used to play guitar with teen phenoms Starving Goliath. Since that band dissolved about three years ago, Shack has been crafting complex acoustic tunes for a solo debut he hopes to drop by this fall. One of the best is "Victimless Criminal," his tale of getting pulled over and arrested for running a red light on his bike and the tedious fallout that ensued. I detect a distinct Incubus vibe in there (though there's none of that band's faux-hippie baggage dragging it down) and maybe a little Spoon too. See it live tonight at Victorian's Midnight Cafe, 251 W. 5th Ave., where Shack has a weekly set around 10:15 p.m. after the open stage wraps up.
