The previous entry already hyped tonight's Flotation Walls concert, so what about the rest of the weekend's music highlights?
Well, from 3 this afternoon all the way up until about 11, bands will be playing in the South Campus/Victorian Village overlap area that some folks are trying to call "The Peach District." The Peach District Classic will feature the musical stylings of Kingsli, Marvin the Robot, Swamp Leather and many more. You'll find them at 247 King Ave., "tucked away in the recesses of Sunside Alley between Dragon Fly and Viking Carry Out."
If you're into the dance party scene, Get Right is celebrating its two-year anniversary tonight at Spice Bar, 491 N. Park St.
At 10 p.m. Saturday El Jesus de Magico is playing Cafe Bourbon Street, 2216 Summit St., with Pizza Slayer, the band behind the excellent Columbus pizza review blog of the same name. (Seriously, it's hilarious and helpful. And they take requests!) I might try to hit this up if I get back from Athens in time.
(Speaking of which, I'll be in Athens most of Saturday for Lobsterfest, a free all-day concert headlined by Jay Reatard and also featuring Columbus heavyweights Blueprint and Earwig. Also: my current Athens obsession Russenorsk.)
As mentioned yesterday, Saturday also marks the second half of Loganpalooza 4 at Newport, if you're interested in "scene" bands. And don't forget Jenny Lewis at the Wexner Center or Black Moth Super Rainbow at Skully's, both Saturday shows as well.
One final note: The superb White Rabbits will be at The Summit, 2210 Summit St., Sunday at 8 p.m. alongside The Subjects (who I liked at The Treehouse a year or two ago) and U.S. Royalty. If you like Spoon and adore percussion, White Rabbits are for you. $8 advance, $10 at the door.
