Artist: The Lindsay Song: "Laid Back"

The Lindsay has always liberally borrowed from epochal '80s indie rock, rarely to the detriment of their own creative spirit. In the case of "Laid Back," that means more of the glistening Sonic Youth-y guitar patterns that characterized "Ready to Run" from their incredible 2006 debut Dragged Out. This track, presumably from their impatiently awaited follow-up, is grueling in a good way, working its way from a dark-hued grind to a righteous rave-up starring bassist Gretchen Tepper, who usually sticks to harmonies but holds her own in the spotlight.

Hear what The Lindsay's been up to the past three years when they play twice this week at Rumba Cafe, 2507 Summit St. First up is a Thursday gig with Houseguest and Za's Pawn Shop; they'll be back at Rumba Sunday afternoon to play with a bunch of other bands at a wedding party.
