Artist: Mike Rep & the Quotas Song: "Mama Was a Schitzo, Daddy Was a Vegetable Man"

Noontime delivered late-breaking news that Brooklyn psych-blues combo Endless Boogie, a favorite among the local hippest-of-the-hip, is playing Carabar, 115 Parsons Ave., tonight at 10.

Along with Psychedelic Horseshit, DIY/punk legend Mike Rep will be opening the show. Rep's rep is sterling among indie rockers of yesterday (Sonic Youth) and today (Times New Viking), and for good reason: He's been cranking out brilliant proto-punk nuggets since the early '70s, before his trademark mane of hair turned white. Take, for instance, the tracks featured at a blog called Detailed Twang, lifted from Rep's 1975-76 recordings.

The Mama and Daddy number we've featured today is a bumbling stumble through blistering two-chord rock 'n' roll. You can hear the direct influence on today's shitgaze titans, but this isn't an intentional lo-fi statement, it's simply balls-out rock music performed powerfully on the cheap.
