I have to admit that much of the time I judge a book by its cover and a band by its name. And the connotations of Michael Franti and Spearhead don't exactly rub me the right way. But a quick spin through the songs on their website reveal that "rebel rockers" (ugh) have a good grip on a distinct sound that draws from decades-old reggae traditions and latter day pop forms like hip-hop, club music and modern rock. It's not the music of my dreams, but it might be up your alley if you identify with Ras Trent. Doors open at 7 p.m., tickets cost $25 and Trevor Hall opens the show.
