A new restaurant is up and running in the former Banana Bean space on Whittier Street, serving comfort food made with top-notch seasonal ingredients. Skillet's web site calls it "upscale takeaway with neighborhood cafe prices."
Through next week, Skillet will serve a lunch menu only from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. as part of a soft opening. Starting Oct. 18, they'll expand to offer dinner hours as well as weekend brunch.
For now, the lunch menu has some delicious-sounding sandwiches (the Porchetta is slow-roasted pork served on a grilled ciabatta, the Braised Beef Short Rib & Italian Taleggio comes on pecan walnut bread with peach spoon fruit), as well as a few other intriguing options like Potato and Cheese Pierogies and Black Bean Ravioli with Duck Confit, Roased Corn, Poblanos and Manchego. Yum.
Plus, each meal comes with a "lagniappe," or a small foodie gift ("always fresh, always seasonal, subject to the chef's whims," according to the menu).
