Halloween weekend is a huge one for rock 'n' roll. Consider...

The Treehouse, 887 Chambers Rd., and Ravari Room, 2657 N. High St., are each throwing their annual Halloween cover shows. Ravari even has a special website devoted to this event.

Then there's the nasty Necropolis-El Jesus de Magico-Raven-Jordan O'Jordan-Twink Bully show at Carabar, 115 Parsons Ave. That's at 10 tonight, and it's free. Undoubtedly the most badass bill of the weekend, although Saturday's all-day metal/noise Halloween party at the Dude Locker (that warehouse at the end of Tompkins by the tracks) comes close.

The Receiver assembled a highly palatable lineup for tonight at Skully's, 1151 N. High St. that also includes Brainbow and The Main Street Gospel.

Southeast Engine

Rumba Cafe, 2507 Summit St., has two solid nights of rock 'n' roll, one vaguely rootsy (Southeast Engine, Harvest Kings and Monolithic Cloud Parade tonight at 11 -- check the preview) and one balls-out classic rock (Good Company, Bygones and Obviouslies).

Wrap up your weekend gently with The Wooden Birds, a lovely American Analog Set offshoot whose show I previewed here. 10 p.m. Sunday at the Treehouse with Winter Makes Sailors.

Or if you prefer to end your weekend loudly and earnestly, Mae will be at Skully's Sunday evening. (Check the preview for more.)

This is only the tip of the iceberg. Options are endless. Fend for yourself. See you Monday.
