Artist: Lydia Loveless Song: "Back on the Bottle"

Despite being a teenager for the full duration of her music career, Lydia Loveless has always sung like somebody who's seen a lifetime of heartbreak and hard living. So "Back to the Bottle," with its narrative about throwing up your hands and boozing til dawn, fits her M.O. to a T. But it's not exactly Lydia-by-numbers. She scores big on this track by applying her typical Patsy Cline twang to a melody so sweet it could have come from a Camera Obscura album; I almost expect to hear sweeping strings.

Hear Loveless and her new band bust out this song and more Wednesday at Circus, 1227 N. High St., and at a big-time Haiti benefit Friday at Ravari Room, 2657 N. High St. Her latest album, The Only Man, drops Feb. 6 at Rumba Cafe.
