The surf-rock hinted at in the band's name definitely shines through on this much-anticipated release, but it's much more than some sort of beachside cowabunga! bash. Strains of reverb-laden indie and shoegaze crash the party, as do sounds from the early days of Lookout Records.

Somehow, they all seem happy sitting together on the beach. (Spoiler alert: This album will likely end up on my year-end list.)
