Owners Kristy Venrick and Andreas Kleinert announced yesterday that effective this weekend, Victorian's Midnight Cafe is changing its name to The Shrunken Head. Sounds like it'll be mostly the same, just with a Caribbean-themed branding. And the 20-year-old version of me is happy to report that Wednesday is still open mic night.

Full press release after the jump. By the way, the website isn't expected to go live until Friday; right now it links you to something called Nilaihah Records.

COLUMBUS, OH (March 6, 2010) - Victorian’s Midnight Café welcomes you to the unveiling of a newly conceptualized bar, music venue and eatery, proudly renamed "The Shrunken Head."

Previously known as “Vic’s” for almost fourteen years, the new owners were looking for a way to keep the uniqueness of Victorian’s Midnight Café, but also create a fresh look, stronger identity and more of a focus on live entertainment. The Shrunken Head promises to up the ante by providing just that: a themed bar with a variety of music, food and drinks to satisfy even the most cultured patron.

Our focus is on the entire experience, whether it be the atmosphere, entertainment, fresh food or overall vibe. Expect to be immersed into more of a relaxed bar environment where you can enjoy breakfast, lunch or dinner and a variety of drink concoctions every day of the week. Let The Shrunken Head be your escape from monotony!

The Shrunken Head has several components: the main room complete with a fully stocked bar, kitchen, seating area, music stage and new PA system (for live entertainment.) The side bar is available for more intimate gatherings and also has a bar, kitchen and seating area. The enclosed tiki bar / back patio area allows patrons an even more intimate setting to enjoy the elements.

Music-loving patrons can expect live music nearly every night of the week at The Shrunken Head. Whether one is looking to end their day with live entertainment or steal the stage during Wednesday night’s open mic, hosted by Columbus’ own Billy Zenn, The Shrunken Head provides a wide variety of genres and styles!

To help add a little extra fun to the nightly entertainment, The Shrunken Head boasts a full bar that truly sets it apart from other local establishments. With over 70 beers to choose from, customers can choose from a large selection of domestic and imported beer available both in the bottle and on tap. Options include Rogue Dead Guy Ale, Red Stripe, seasonal Bells, Stella Artois, Heineken, Guinness, Strongbow and Warsteiner, along with microbrews such as Dragon’s Milk and Paulaner.

The bar is also stocked with a full selection of wines and liquors, some not found anywhere else in Columbus! Rogue Dead Guy now offers whiskey, gin and an amazing hazelnut spiced rum! You can also try Pernod (anise liquor), Brazillan Cachaça rum (for Caipirinhas), Alien tequila (honey) or Dan Aykroyd’s own Crystal Head skull vodka to create delicious specialty drinks, including our exclusive collection of shrunken head, Caribbean, and voodoo concoctions created by the “Head’s” very own bartenders.

At The Shrunken Head, customers will still be able to enjoy many of Vic’s favorites such as the Cleveland style Reuben and the mouth-watering homemade chili. The establishment prides itself on serving its customers the freshest locally farmed beef and pork found in their signature hamburgers and famed German schnitzel – some of the best in all of Ohio! They also serve Polish kielbasa and sausages made in Toledo. Vegetarians need not be concerned; The Shrunken Head provides numerous vegetarian options including scrumptious veggie burgers, tofu scramble, salads, hummus, quesadillas and more! Patrons can also enjoy enticing breakfast favorites including the delectable S.O.B. breakfast burrito, fresh eggs, thick locally grown sausage patties, crispy bacon, fluffy pancakes, cinnamon French toast, gourmet organic coffees, and organic fair trade teas.

The décor has undergone transformation as well; emerging with a refreshing, unified shrunken head theme. A variety of murals including images of the shrunken head logo, palm trees, and other Caribbean elements adorn the walls. Music-related decorations also play a role in the décor, uniting the musical aspect of the establishment.

Armed with a new name and fresh outlook, this establishment promises to be a haven for hungry patrons craving superior alcoholic beverages, mouth-watering foods, and live music that will lift the soul. A destination where you can escape and have fun. A name that one cannot forget. That is The Shrunken Head!
