In my recent profile of promising Columbus hip-hop crew The 3rd, they mentioned they had a project coming up with Okay Player/The Roots associate Truck North. Turns out before "Satellites" drops, they're releasing a mixtape called "Nahright x Elevator Music Presents: Truck North + The 3rd - Reconstruction Mixtape". A track from that project called "Out There" just hit my inbox.

First of all: produced by DJ Premier? Nice work, buds. Second of all, endorsed by Nah Right? Pretty much the best rap blog out there when it comes to hot new leaks, so again, kudos. Thirdly, this track is hot. Beat is moody and melancholy but gnarly and nasty too, and unlike too many of the Columbus rap releases that come across my desk, every MC steps to the mic like a pro.

Get it for yourself and vibe out to your heart's content, then see them live April 29 at BOMA, 583 E. Broad St. Between these dudes and P. Blackk, the local rap scene is a lot fresher than I realized a few months back.
