Nick Wolak and Jacob Wooten, the dudes behind Evolved, Trauma and the former High Five, recently bought longstanding North Campus music bar Oldfield's on High with plans to rename and retool the space. A press release this morning shed the first rays of light on those plans: The bar has been renamed KOBO.

As explained in the release, "In Japanese KOBO means 'artist's work space'. We endeavor to embody this meaning in all aspects of our business."

The name change takes effect immediately, and a grand re-opening celebration runs from July 4-10, capped off by a series of diverse concerts featuring rock, hip-hop and electronic music. (Conflict of interest alert: One of the shows features my band.)

More info coming soon about the changes in store at KOBO. In the meantime, you can read the full press release after the jump.

Oldfield’s on High has been a cornerstone in local entertainment for over 20 years. We are proud to announce the renaming of the venue, now called "KOBO".

What is KOBO?

In Japanese KOBO means “artist's work space”. We endeavor to embody this meaning in all aspects of our business. We take pride in our performance space, sound system, service, and staff.

Expect to see and hear many exciting changes from KOBO in an effort to support and better the music scene in Columbus.

We will be hosting our "Grand Opening" July 4th through July 10th. The week will be jam packed with great local talent and will climax with three free shows featuring mashed up bills of some of Columbus's most talented DJ's, Rock groups, and Hip Hop artists. The weekend lineups will feature (in reverse order)...

July 10th:

*LES Crew, The Receiver, and roeVy

July 9th:

*Ill Atmospherics, Rosehips, and Illogic featuring Ill Poetic

July 8th:

* Envelope, The Compressions, and Dance or Die featuring DJ Self Help and DJ Barticus

We invite you to come in and experience the changes leading up to and following the grand opening. We will continue to host our regular Sunday nights with Jimmy Riggs, Monday nights with Jahman Brahman, and Wednesday night karaoke.

Our monthly dance party – Dance or Die – will continue on the last Saturday of each month. The first Thursday of every month, we are excited to introduce – Dutty Wine - a new dance hall and world music party presented by Self Help and Carma.

June 24th, stop in for a Comfest pre-party with Ease the Medic, The Pinkertones (Weezer cover band) and Afortiori's final show.

We look forward to seeing you all at KOBO!
