As of today, it's officially summer — although many would argue the season started Memorial Day weekend or when school let out — which means going out to rock shows on weeknights seems like a better idea than when it's 27 degrees and sleeting out on some wretched February Monday. So the shitgaze family reunion tonight at Carabar, 115 Parsons Ave., should be no sweat for you working stiffs. (Well, at least until tomorrow morning.)
Times New Viking hasn't played their hometown in months, so certainly they must have some new songs up their sleeves. Furthermore, 2/3 of TNV seems to have been absorbed into sister band Psychedelic Horseshit to back up Matt Whitehurst, who goes through bandmates about as often as I go through a pair of sneakers. Seeing what they've cooked up is another enticing prospect. Then there's Cave, a Drag City Records signee who reeled me in within three seconds of psych-punk war march "Made In Malaysia". 10 p.m. start for this, and it's free.
