Toro Y Moi - "New Beat" (Official Video) from Urban Outfitters on Vimeo.
Chaz Bundick's solo project Toro y Moi has been lumped in with the chillwave movement, but his sophomore LP "Underneath the Pine" does not sound like faded summer memories. In fact, the latest from South Carolina native Bundick is both more present and more traditionally psychedelic than breakthrough single "Blessa" and the rest of debut "Causers of This".
New track "Before I'm Done", for instance, is up in your face with visceral finger plucks and analog organ drones. "Got Blinded" has electric guitar stabs and plinking piano that sounds like it was played by a real person, not sequenced and processed into oblivion (not that there's anything wrong with that). It's a lot more like "Andorra"-era Caribou than second-rate Washed Out, and it's making my sniffly Tuesday afternoon immeasurably better. Have some, won't you?
