Paul Valdiviez, who plays keyboard in the not-long-for-this-world indie pop combo Historians, recently brought to my attention his solo LP "The Good Life", one of the more fascinating albums I've encountered this year. Valdiviez' chamber pop skips across genres with ease. He's got an arresting voice and a gift for melody, but it's the arrangements that set this album apart.

Valdiviez puts his vast array of talented pals to work skipping through jazz, post-rock, classical and even a little mariachi. Everything from Grizzly Bear to Wilco to Vampire Weekend to The Sea and Cake comes to mind, and that's only the tip of the iceberg. Have a listen at Bandcamp or below.
