Rimar Villaseñor is a campus-area electronic music producer whose jams conjure a sweat-dampened, hazy deadbeat summer, but with more of a party vibe than many of today's lo-fi 80s revivalists. His new nine-track EP "Higher Ground" could only be a product of its time, with flashes of dubstep, chillwave and the hedonistic hipster R&B of The Weeknd/Frank Ocean all in the mix. It's trendy, sure, but it's also expertly executed, particularly the Velvet Underground-sampling fever dream "Ways."

This is what I wish How To Dress Well sounded like — ghostly but not such an insufferable drag. Quite the opposite, really. Though he stays chill, Mr. Villaseñor is not afraid of a groove.

Looks like Rimar is throwing a release party at a house on Patterson this Saturday, so add it to the list of excellent live music options that night.
