Fan favorite retires, joins Crew front office as "Brand Ambassador"

My trusted "Dispatch" colleague/Noel Gallagher fanboy Adam Jardy has been tweeting from the Crew's press conference this afternoon. The big news: Fan favorite Frankie Hejduk has officially announced his retirement as a player and will join the Crew front office as a "Brand Ambassador." I assume that means he will be doing something like this...

After debuting with the Tampa Bay Mutiny and playing professionally in Germany and Sweden, Hejduk suited up for Columbus from 2003-2010 before spending the 2011 season with the L.A. Galaxy. He represented the U.S. in two Olympics (1996 and 2000) and two World Cups (1998 and 2002).

In addition to serving with distinction as longtime Crew captain and scoring one of the greatest goals in club history, Hejduk was as much of a team mascot as Crew Cat during his years in Columbus. In terms of fan relations, he'll be worth whatever they're paying him.
