It's timely, of course, because the film's controversial plot involving schoolchildren who are forced to fight one another to the death has gotten some obvious comparisions to recent theatrical mega-hit "The Hunger Games."

My personal take? The movies - and the books they were based upon - take a different enough approach to make both worthwhile. You'll find "Battle Royale" to be far more violent, more overt in its political satire and less character-driven. See for yourself this Friday and Saturday at midnight showings.
