"Somber Honey" will be out on vinyl Oct. 12 with a release show at Kobo.
The Whiles have long specialized in immensely pretty folk-rock with a knack for storytelling and a probing eye for the human condition. Though Joe Peppercorn and company have scaled back their profile significantly since their young hotshot days performing under the name Mrs. Children, their first two albums remainsome of the most rewarding music to come out of Columbus in the past decade. Now you can listen to both of them for free, as 2004 debut "Colors of the Year" and 2007 masterpiece "Sleeper's Wake" are streaming on Bandcamp.
Furthermore, the group's long-gestating third album "Somber Honey," originally promised for spring 2010, is finally coming out. (Since then, Peppercorn recovered from a serious back injury and played the Beatles catalog in full twice.) The band will release "Somber Honey" on vinyl Oct. 12 with a show at Kobo with Winter Makes Sailors and Bicentennial Bear. In the leadup to the release, they're also playing Kobo on Sept. 14 with Ghost Shirt.
Have a listen to "Sleeper's Wake" below and get psyched up (or the melancholy, thoughtful equivalent of psyched up).
