If you've ever wanted to save a cocktail from a ridiculous/inaccurate/pretentious/embarrassing name, your chance has arrived. Hubbard Grille is hosting the Become Legendary cocktail-naming contest for the second year in a row.
Here's the deal: Bartenders at the Short North restaurant and bar have concocted five new autumnal cocktails (using local spirits, natch) but have left them anonymous. Your job is to stop in, have a drink and then name the drink. Names are accepted Sept. 1 through Sept. 30. On Oct. 10, the bar invites in a panel of judges to make final decisions on names. I helped with this event last year and had a blast (you can see my fuzzy "ballot" in the photograph above). Each winning name-bestower gets a $50 gift card and some bragging rights.
Bonus: The bar has created a sixth drink, called the Art for Life cocktail. Order that one and a portion of the proceeds go to Art for Life to support the Columbus AIDS Resource Center Ohio. That's worth a cheers.
