This just in: Incredible Aussie psych band Tame Impala will play Newport Music Hall on March 8. Listening to the band's new Lonerism is among the most pleasurable sensations of 2012, and I'm sure hearing it in concert will be among the best of 2013. Tickets cost $17 advance or $20 day of, and they go on sale this Saturday at 10 a.m.
Also returning to Columbus is country star/next-gen Jimmy Buffett impersonator Kenny Chesney. He'll bring his No Shoes Nation Tour (with Eric Church and Eli Young Band) to Crew Stadium on June 29. Tickets go on sale Thursday at 10 a.m. with a generous price range of $21 to $171.
On a much smaller scale (but just a few blocks to the west), post-punk buzz band Parquet Courts, recipient of recent Pitchfork and Stereogum love, will play Cafe Bourbon Street on Jan. 7. I'm sure you can just pay something like $10 or less at the door.
One more show of note: indie-folk favorites Freelance Whales will be at A&R Music Bar on Jan. 20. Acclaimed experiemental electronic act Hundred Waters, who played the Wex this fall, will open the show. Tickets cost $13 advance, $15 day of.
