When the Dance Heritage Coalition’s traveling exhibition of “America’s Irreplaceable Dance Treasures” came to the Columbus Cultural Arts Center in 2004, there were only 100 dancers on the list. The coalition tapped the original 100 dance-world icons in 1999 and hasn’t added anyone to the list since.
Until last week.
Its latest honorees are the following: Jacques d’Amboise, Jane Dudley, Garth Fagan, Frederic Franklin, Loie Fuller, Carmen de Lavallade, John Martin, Sophie Maslow, Daniel Nagrin, The Rockettes, Maria Tallchief and Michael Jackson.
Thanks, Dance Heritage Coalition, for giving me another excuse to watch Jackson doing the robot to “Dancing Machine.” Wowza.
