P. Blackk and J. Rawls are doing a damn fine job stoking my excitement for Contemporary Nostalgia, their collaborative album that's finally coming to a hard drive near you Dec. 30. They dropped a fiery lead single in "Don't Do It," they made a quick but lasting impression at Rocktoberfest, and the album trailer revealed another solid track called "Nahmean." I was out of town on assignment Friday, but word is their listening party at Kingsrowe Gallery was tremendous; Columbus-based hip-hop scribe Paul Meara (Complex, HipHopDX, All Hip Hop, The Source) gave it his stamp of approval: "Album is about to be a problem."
Now comes the first official video courtesy of Taylor Nawrocki. "Coming of Age" starts out with Blackk vibing in Rawls' studio. Then he wilds out from shotgun with his DJ, Bruni, behind the wheel. The music is as impeccable as you'd expect; extra-special props to DJ O Sharp for chopping up Tribe, Kanye, Gang Starr and P. Blackk himself into a sample-stitched chorus in classic hip-hop fashion.
If you aren't hyped, get hyped.
