Proposals will be accepted through July 31.
My favorite bike racks in this city are the orange ones that look like bikes outside of the Victorian Village Jeni's Ice Creams test kitchens. Clever.
But seeing as how they are in a spot where the only people who ever really need to shack up to them are Jeni's employees, I'm really excited about the new Pilot Public Art Bike Rack Program announced recently.
The program - a partnership between the Columbus Art Commission, Greater Columbus Arts Council, Recreation and Parks Department and Department of Public Utilities - has requested artists' proposals for similarly awesome public art bike rack designs. The group will accept submissions through July 31. Nine will be selected for placement at eight Columbus parks and community centers and at the Dublin Road campus of the Department of Public Utilities.
