Foodie news for foodie people (and other people who generally like to eat but hate labels)
Downtown's about to get a whole lot more French up in here. The FAB Dining Group (deNOVO and Manifesto) recently announced plans to open chez du bon, a fresh market and French eatery that will include a 5,500-square-foot space with a charcuterie, bakery, coffee shop and flower shop, in addition to a "large grab-and-go selection." The space will be located at the corner of High and E. State streets. It'll also feature a large outdoor courtyard with wrought iron fencing and a canopy. As far as food offerings, chez du bon expects to offer French-inspired specialties like beignets, chocalat chaud and croissants. "I want to creat a place where the kind of energy you feel on the streets and in the markets of Paris can exist in Columbus," said proprietress Yavonne Sarber in the press release. In addition to the fresh market on the street level, Sarber is planning a 1,000-square-foot French restaurant on the mezzanine and is looking for a chef for the establishment, which is expected to specialize in food/wine pairings. In other food news, Explorers Club announced today that it's suspending lunch at its brick-and-mortar restaurant due to the success of its new food truck. Lunch will be suspended at the restaurant starting Sept. 3. Customers can keep up with the food truck by following Explorers Club on Facebook or through streetfoodfinder.com. In the press release, chef Dan Varga said he's hoping this move will free him to concentrate on dinner and the debut of a new, ever-changing menu of nightly bar small bite specials. Happy hour now will run from 4-6 p.m., with extended dinner hours through 10 p.m. Monday-Saturday.
