Three upcoming tribute shows y'all might enjoy:
This Saturday's Country Legends concert brings the music of Johnny Cash, Buck Owens, Jerry Reed, Waylon Jennings, Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson, Hank Williams, George Jones, Randy Travis and more to King Ave. 5. Impersonating those titans of twang will be local talent including Outlaw Deluxe, Skunky Precious, Jinxed, The Boondogglers, Apple Bottom Gang and Aaron Pauley, with the gregarious duo Me & Lil' Brother as host. Anybody looking to cry in their beer will probably find a lot to like here.
Then, Friday, Aug. 23, get ready to revert to a more primitive state when bands gather at The Summit for A Not... TOTALLY Dev-o Tribute Night. In addition to devolved music from Lieutenant Dance, Eric Nassau & Friends, Bo Davis, The Mutant Mountain Boys and Malcolm Tent, there'll be rare Devo videos, DJs, a costume contest, a disco ball piñata, trivia and "bobbin' for spuds." The event description promises: "This will be freekery and geekery, with a decidedly DEV-O bent! How low can the entertainment go?" Proceeds will go to the Gastric Cancer Foundation in honor of recently deceased Devo drummer Alan Myers.
Lastly, the recent series of decade-encompassing cover nights continues Friday, Sept. 6 at Ace of Cups with '60s Night Live! A lineup of local greats (Lydia Loveless, Bummers, Sundown, Ipps, Strangers in Daylight, Sega Genocide, Dead Girlfriends, Professional Wrestling, The Japanese B-Sides, and Comrade Question) will each tackle one year of music from the 1960s. Appropriately, Heatwave DJs will spin in between.
