Deschutes Brewery is coming to Ohio

Posted by Jesse Tigges | January 15, 2014 03:32 PM

The Oregon-based Deschutes Brewery will make its debut in Columbus this weekend at Columbus Winter Beerfest, and has a number of events scheduled Jan. 28 through Feb. 2 around the city to celebrate its beers becoming available in Ohio. The Mirror Pond Pale Ale, Black Butte Porter, Inversion IPA and Red Chair Northwest Pale Ale will be the first beers available (on draft and in six packs) in the Buckeye state. Personally, I’ve yet to sample Deschutes beers — I know, I know, lazy beer writer here — but I’ll get on top of that toot sweet (and surely have an opinion to give).

Some of the more exciting events scheduled between Jan. 28 and Feb. 2 include: An Olde Towne East tasting taking place at four of the neighborhood’s best haunts (Yellow Brick, Olde Towne Tavern, Carabar, The Corner Stone) Jan. 29; a brunch and beer tasting at The Crest Feb. 1 and a Super Bowl party at World of Beer (Easton) Feb. 2. Below is the full schedule of events with descriptions, provided from a press release. (The Deschutes Brewery Beer Dinner at 101 Beer Kitchen is included, but has already sold out.)

What: Deschutes Brewery Beer Dinner (SOLD OUT)

When: 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 28

Where: 101 Beer Kitchen, 7509 Sawmill Rd., Dublin

Pairing beers with foods is an art form, and we think we’ve hit it right on the head with this evening’s lineup. The talented chefs at 101 Beer Kitchen will be creating several courses using seasonal, local products and placing them alongside beers from Oregon’s Deschutes Brewery – here from the west coast to launch their beers in Ohio.

What: Oregon Comes to Old Towne

When: 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 29

Where:

•      The Corner Stone Craft Beer & Wine, 61 Parsons Ave., Olde Towne East

•      Yellow Brick Pizza, 892 Oak St., Olde Towne East

•      Olde Towne Tavern, 889 Oak St., Olde Towne East

•      Carabar, 115 Parsons Ave., Olde Towne East

Deschutes Brewery is bringing a taste of Oregon to Old Towne Columbus, with its tasty beers pouring at no less than four popular Old Towne haunts. Make the rounds and welcome Deschutes to Ohio!

What: Beer and Movie Night with the Barley Hopsters

When: 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 30

Where: The Strand Theater, 28 E. Winter St., Delaware

Come hang out with the Barley Hopsters at the historic Strand Theater and sample some delicious Deschutes Brewery beer all the way from Oregon. You know what else is coming to the Theater from Oregon? The classic film “The Goonies,” filmed there in 1985.

What: Friends of the Bar Meet the Brewery

When: 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 30

Where: Bob’s Bar, 4961 N. High St., Clintonville

Come meet the gang from Deschutes Brewery and enjoy flights of their beer as they visit Ohio all the way from Oregon. Enjoy a hot dog buffet with condiments that were actually made using Deschutes Brewery beer as an ingredient, plus nosh on other beer-inspired bar snacks.

What: Taste of Oregon with Deschutes Brewery

When: 6-8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 31

Where: Giant Eagle Market District, 1798 Kingsdale Center, Upper Arlington

We don’t think there’s any better way to “taste” Oregon than by sampling a few of its best brews from Deschutes Brewery – launching in Ohio this week. Featuring the beautiful and aromatic whole flower hop, their beer lineup will have you longing for the west coast.

What: Beer-lesque: Tastings and Tassels!

When: 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 31

Where: Skully's Music-Diner, 1151 N. High St., Short North

What’s better than an evening full of craft beer from Oregon’s Deschutes Brewery? An evening full of craft beer coupled with some lovely burlesque dancers from local troupe the Velvet Hearts and national singular sensation Fannie Spankings! They will feature a Deschutes Brewery beer in each of their burlesque and variety stage acts. Swank DJ’s will set the mood at the beginning of the show and round out the evening after Beer-lesque. This is sure to be a night of excitement, laughter, and unforgettable fun. Tickets are $7 and can be purchased at www.skullys.org

What: Brewers Brunch with Deschutes Brewery

When: 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 1

Where: The Crest Gastropub, 2855 Indianola Ave., Clintonville

Beer and breakfast: it’s not an oxymoron anymore! Join us for a perfect weekend brunch of tasty treats paired with beers from 4 different breweries. Deschutes Brewery has teamed up with local favorites Elevator Brewery and Draught Haus, North High Brewing, and Seventh Son Brewing Company. To top it all off, staff from each brewery will be in the house to hang out and talk craft beer over bacon.

What: Short North Brewing Arts

When: 3-10 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 1

Where: Short North Pint House & Beer Garden, 780 N. High St., Short North

As an extra note of celebration for the “Paint the Pint House” first Saturday during Gallery Hop night, beers will be flowing from the new to Ohio Deschutes Brewery. Come celebrate with pub grub, pints all the way from Oregon and local artist, who will be creating art right in front of your eyes!

What: Super Beer Superbowl Party

When: 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 2

Where: World Of Beer, 3934 Townsfair Way, Easton

What’s the Super Bowl without some fantastic craft beer in hand? Just another plain, old Sunday, we’d say. That’s why Deschutes Brewery and its crew are here all the way from Oregon, launching their tasty craft beers in Ohio to celebrate the big game, “Hangover” and “Bridesmaids-style.”  Live music from the Lovebenders from 4–6 p.m. and an all-you-can-eat buffet for $10 round out the festivities ($5 of the ticket goes to the Nature Conservancy). Buffet tickets can be purchased at World of Beer.
