Editor's note: As Massive City FFC's Justin Bell laid out in the project's first post, fate seemed to conspire to get this baby rolling. And now that it's rolling, we can clearly see why (SPOILER: It's been hella cool). As we'd always planned, Alive will post weekly roundups of each new Crest, with links back to Massive City so you can read more about the thought that went into each logo. You're gonna wanna.
DAY EIGHT: LE CHAT NOIR
Today's new Crew logo features Crew Cat. As I discussed this project at the office with some co-workers, I was surprised by how few even knew of the Crew's team mascot. Upon further reflection, it makes sense. The Crew doesn't use the mascot in promotions to the extent many other pro sports teams do. The connection between the Crew and the cat is also tenuous for most people. Read Justin's post on this logo concept, however, and you'll find all kinds of unique connections, not just within Columbus but also to the greater soccer world.
DAY NINE: CREWCIBLE
The ninth Justin Bell-designed Crew logo is another attempt to straddle Columbus and Ohio's blue collar roots with Cap City's progressive, maker community.
DAY TEN: STAY GOLD
Today's post features four Crew players who've chosen to wear soccer's famous No. 10 jersey. Though I might disagree with Justin's choice of Andres Mendoza over Kyle Martino, any logo concept that features one of my all-time favorite Crew players (whom I also remember meeting as an awe-struck teenager), Brian Maissoneuve.
DAY ELEVEN: CREWDETTO
Day 11 is perhaps the most minimalistic logo Justin's designed, and perhaps that's why I like it so much. It was inspired by Justin's love of Italian soccer, and makes me more excited for the day he'll open his dream Italian soccer bar -- think a more sophisticated pub with grappa and espresso.
DAY TWELVE: THIS IS COLUMBUS
Any Crew logo concept that begins with a quote by James Thurber's A-OK by me. A lot of Crew fans have clamored for a new logo that's shaped like Ohio, but if the team's going to go with a shape that's a little non-traditional, I'd rather utilize the city's shield.
DAY THIRTEEN: CIUDAD MASSIVE
I was surprised how much I liked this logo concept upon completion. It's a little funky, but its roots in Argentinian soccer culture intrigues me.
DAY FOURTEEN: HEART OF GOLD
Today's post might not have been inspired by Valentine's Day, but the timing of the post was apropos. I'd never heard Columbus described as The Heart of The Heart of It All, but now that i have, I love it. The Crew have a history with hearts, and not in the figurative sense necessarily.
After the first week of logos, we've started getting more submissions from other fans. Too many, in fact, to go with this post. I'll try to get to those later today.
