New concerts: Neutral Milk Hotel, Schoolboy Q and more

Neutral Milk Hotel visits Columbus on July 20

Columbus might still be locked in a deep freeze, but in recent weeks concert announcements have started to heat up. Here are some of the latest shows scheduled to visit our city in the coming months.

Reclusive indie-rock legends Neutral Milk Hotel will headline Next @ Wex Fest at LC Outdoor Pavilion on Sunday, July 20.Tickets are $30.50 in advance/$33 at the door, and go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb.7, at ticketmaster.com.

Rapper Schoolboy Q, who delivered a blistering afternoon performance at last summer’s Breakaway Music Festival, returns to town for a concert at Newport Music Hall on Saturday, March 8. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased at ticketmaster.com.

Also visiting the Newport is The Naked and Famous. The New Zealand alt-rockers stop by the venue for a concert on Wednesday, June 4. Tickets for that one are $20 in advance/$20 at the door, and can be purchased at ticketmaster.com.

The Schottenstein Center also announced a pair of upcoming shows that fall at complete opposite ends of the musical spectrum.

First up is singer/songwriter James Taylor, who brings his conversational tunes to the arena for a concert on Sunday, June 29. Tickets are $62.50 and $82.50, and go on sale at 10 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 7, at ticketmaster.com.

Things take a significantly rowdier turn when Motley Crue brings its “Final Tour” to the venue on Tuesday, July 8. Tickets for that one are priced $20-$125, and can be purchased at ticketmaster.com. Bonus points to singer Vince Neil if he swings by Melty Crue for a pre-concert dinner.

One local alternative radio station also recently announced the return of CD102.5 Day, which actually stretches over the course of two days: Saturday, March 29, and Saturday, April 5. The March 29 lineup, billed as Side A, boasts The Orwells, who open for Arctic Monkeys at a must-see LC show next week, MS MR, Grouplove and Skaters. April 5 (or Side B) brings Phantogram, Jagwar Ma, Morning Parade and Magic Man. Tickets for each show are $5, and go on sale at 10 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 7, at ticketmaster.com.
