Editor's picks: 11 things to do this weekend

Posted by Justin McIntosh | June 13, 2014 12:44 PM

If I’m being honest, I won’t be doing much of anything these next 30 days but watching soccer. But if I do venture away from the footy, these are all great options. As always, here’s what I’d do this weekend if I could be everywhere all the time.

Friday

Wanda Jackson at Rumba Cafe

Wanda Jackson, as the headline suggests, refuses to mellow with age, a fact I can attest to after watching her absolutely obliterate the main stage crowd with a stunning mix of feistiness and sass during the 2011 Nelsonville Music Festival. Just imagine what she can do in an intimate venue like Rumba.

Spain vs. Netherlands at 4th St. Bar & Grill

The world’s biggest sporting spectacle kicked off yesterday, and I, for one, couldn’t be more excited. Follow Crew legend Frankie Hejduk’s advice and watch the games in style. I’ll be taking in the 2010 World Cup finals rematch at 4th St, due in part to its happy hour.

The Salty Caramels at Woodlands Tavern

Fritz the Nite Owl hosts "Friday the 13th" at Studio 35

Downtown Drive-In: "Ghostbusters" at North Market

Saturday

Moonlight Market on Gay Street

I’m a procrastinator. Deadlines are my weekly lifesaver. As such, I’ve put off on getting my pops a gift for Father’s Day. Saturday’s Moonlight Market offers plenty of options to come through in the clutch. Like, for instance, Bearded Woodcraft, which produces slim, eco-friendly wooden wallets. Or Cliff Original, a locally made hair and beard product company. Or maybe dad’s a little more into food than grooming Check out Cajohn’s Fiery Foods.

"Leaving the Atocha Station" at Riffe Center Studio One

"Offset" at OSU Urban Arts Space

Farmers Market at North Market

Sunday

Bono Pizza in Grandview

I’ve unfortunately never experienced Bono, which, given this glowing review, makes me feel all the shames. If you’ve, likewise, missed out on the artisanal pizzeria that started it all in Columbus, this weekend seems as good a time as any to rectify that mistake.

"Orange is the New Black"
