Connected to the National Portrait Gallery is the equally fun and equally free at all times Smithsonian American Art Museum, where I went to see an intriguing Graphic Masters show. Needing a pick-me-up afterward, I headed to nearby Oyamel which, like Zaytinya, is a Jose Andres restaurant (the guy practically owns this city).

During Oyamel's incredibly happy hour -- when its very good house margaritas are only $4 -- Oyamel features what might well be the best taco deal in the country. You get two flavor explosions on homemade tortillas for a laughable $4. They look like this:

Cochinita Pibil with pickled onions, Carnitas with crunchy pork rinds and Chicken Tinga with potatoes and chorizo

Behold the best fish tacos I've ever had

Pescado Mexicano, super juicy and slathered with an epiphanic cilantro pesto
