Artist: Little Barrie Track: "Pay to Join" Album: Stand Your Ground

Listen

I got the band's debut album when I was working at The Dispatch, and I still remember it. Why? Because they borrowed so heavily from Traffic, a fantastic band that bands don't borrow from anymore.

They don't make them like they used to, and all that...

(Note: Listen to more Traffic today.)

Anyway, these British boys have continued to make great music, recently releasing We Are Little Barrie. There's a bit too much of that angular, arctic crunch and that funky disco bop elsewhere on Stand Your Ground, but this track is a feel-good jam that sounds as if it's about to fly off the handle at any moment.

It doesn't, and there's worthwhile tension in this song - the kind of restraint most contemporary bands don't practice. More with less. More with less. More with less.
