Artist: The Raveonettes Track: "Lust" Album: Demo 2007
Chris DeVille was correct in identifying the three primary influences of this glam-garage outfit - The Jesus and Mary Chain, '60s garage rock and glam - though their latter day work is better than he claims here.
Me, I think the band has remained pretty solid. I take them in small doses, and perhaps that's wise. Nothing they do is fresh, but what they do, they do well. The band's sometimes piercing, sometimes languid mix is especially sharp on "Lust," which feels like taking a handful of Quaaludes and trying to fall asleep on a gravel driveway.
I mean that in the nicest way.
The Raveonettes play The Basement on Wednesday, October 17. Gliss and Nicole Atkins & The Sea also will play. For info, click to promowestlive.com.
