Artist: Al Fats & Chip tha Ripper Track: "On Some Bulls--t" Album: Double Trouble Listen

During the past several years, The Kickdrums, a production duo from Cleveland, have created beats for big name hip-hop artists like Yung Joc and 50 Cent. Often, though, their best stuff stays with the Ohio talent that seems in many ways to revolve around Fitts and Tilla.

That's certainly true on "On Some Bulls--t," which appears on the new record by Cleveland emcees Al Fatz and Chip tha Ripper. Besides the solid, flowing testimonial raps, what's interesting about the track is the way it borrows equally from the laidback vibe of The Pharcyde and the high-impact, orchestral styling of 50, Joc, Three 6 Mafia and others.

The album's out this week and available here. The Plain Dealer ran a great feature on the duo last week. [Full story]

Full disclosure: I know Fitty from way back. When we were in middle school, we used to set up in his mom's house and play Nirvana songs. Fitty on guitar, me on drums. Years later, we used to hang out in a friend's basement and rap about nonsense over beats he made using a sampler and a PC with little more than "Sound Recorder." Good times, those.
