Artist: Band of Horses Track: "Is There a Ghost" Album: Cease to Begin Listen

This is such a joyous, exuberant song, and I should've put it on my list of top singles from 2007. Like a band of horses, this Sub Pop band bursts free, opening a stellar album with a supremely tight anthem about triumphing over depression.

The main character wonders if there was a ghost in his house, which I interpret as an embodiment of self-doubt, fear and lonliness. And this song would be just as despressing as any other about those things, except it's told in the past tense. That's a genius move: In hindsight, the man has been set free. This is the ballad of a man who has overcome.

What a treat, this song.
