Don't forget that I'm leading a birding/hiking trip this weekend at the park. It should be a great two-hour excursion with brunch somewhere in German Village to follow. Bring friends -- and binoculars! [Full info]

Awesome species begins winter trek home Sandhill cranes are making their way north to Ohio -- great news for me, since I've never seen one. During the next month or so, they'll be flocking back in greater numbers. From the ODNR blog:
"A female crane made it back home to Ohio from her wintering location near Orlando, Florida. She departed Florida sometime after February 23 ... and flew her last 300 miles back to Chardon this week. Other cranes arrived in Geauga County on March 10."

Downtown falcon lays an egg Not sure if I've mentioned them on this blog in a while, but the peregrine falcons that live on a 41st floor ledge of the Rhodes Tower are doing well. They're expecting a newborn soon, after laying an egg recently. Best wishes to them.
