Had an amazing weekend outside. Here's more about my itinerary and some things to encourage you to do the same starting next Friday at 5 p.m.: Stopped by the Darby Creek Nursery, 966 S. High St., on Saturday morning, though a cold, bitter rain looked a little treacherous for much planting. This year, the nursery has set up three temporary greenhouses and garden centers in Columbus neighborhoods. The German Village location will remain open through July, and it has a really nice selection of hanging baskets, potten geraniums and flowering shrubs. Soon my yard will look this the above masterpiece on Willow Street. [More info] Spent Saturday on the Mad River in Urbana. The day-long seminar hosted by Mad River Outfitters was an entomology lesson, casting clinic and on-water instruction symposium all rolled into one. Thanks to Brian Flechsig, our host, for a very informative trip. Look for full coverage in May. Yard Quest 2008, my attempt to revamp my yard for $200, continued this weekend. White-throated sparrow have been decimating my grass seed. That's why I bought these. The clerk at Yankee Trader mentioned that gardeners have been coming and buying fake snakes to keep away critters like rabbits and squirrels. Now that's creative gardening.
